SUMMARY:SPACE21 Sound Gallery
DESCRIPTION:SPACE21 Sound Gallery is housed on the second floor of the historic Yellow Building in the old tobacco factory in Slemani. Abandoned after the Kurdish revolution in 1991\, the factory has been reborn as a vibrant cultural hub—a “culture factory”—for the city’s creative makers. The gallery’s hall still holds the scent and spirit of its sonic past\, echoing the labour and stories of those who once worked there\, including the father of SPACE21 founder Hardi Kurda. Stepping into the hall is like entering a living tobacco factory museum\, where the original machines remain as silent witnesses to a bygone era. Today\, instead of producing tobacco\, the space invites listeners and artists to collaborate in the creation of sound. The hall’s resonance calls everyone back to collective work\, transforming industrial memory into an artistic experience—where the sounds of the past inspire new sonic futures

SUMMARY:Piramerd Poet
DESCRIPTION:Piramerd Poet House – In recent years\, Archive Khanah has found a home in some of Slemani’s most significant cultural landmarks\, each space carrying a unique legacy deeply connected to Kurdish history and intellectual life. We began at Piramerd House\, the residence of the legendary Kurdish author and activist who founded the city’s first publishing house—a beacon for anti-colonial thought and literary innovation. The walls of Piramerd House echo with the voices of resistance and creativity\, making it a fitting setting for safeguarding and sharing the Kurdish Sound Archive

SUMMARY:Dr Nebez Museum
DESCRIPTION:Dr Jamal Nebez Museum – Last year\, Archive Khanah moved to the Dr Nebez Museum\, another storied space dedicated to the life and work of one of Kurdistan’s most influential thinkers. Dr Nebez’s decision to devote both his personal archive and his home to future generations reflects a deep commitment to cultural preservation and education. Hosting Archive Khanah in this environment allowed the audience to connect intimately with the sounds and stories that have shaped Kurdish identity. This year\, Archive Khanah invites the public to revisit these remarkable venues and embark on a unique listening journey through the Kurdish Sound Archive. By bringing the archive back to these historically and culturally rich spaces\, we aim to deepen the experience of listening—not just to recorded sounds\, but to the living history embedded in the very fabric of these homes. Through this\, Archive Khanah continues its mission to bridge past and present\, inspiring new connections and understanding through the powerful act of listening

SUMMARY:Cultural House
DESCRIPTION:The 10th edition of Space21 opens at the House of Culture\, which proudly houses Archive Khanah’s latest collection of audio archives. Continuing its mission to preserve and showcase the Kurdish sound heritage\, Archif Khana’s new interactive project focuses on rare recordings from the 1960s to 2000s\, working with local collectors such as Shuan Oscar and Kamal Haji Saeed. By activating historic sites and fostering new listening experiences\, Space21 has spent ten years as both a festival and a living archive—linking past and present\, and ensuring the Kurdish sound endures for future generation
